Detailed Itinerary

Route Overview

The Rongai Route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the northern side near the Kenyan border. It is quieter, less crowded, and offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.

Duration: 7 Days / 6 Nights
Starting & Ending Point: Arusha, Tanzania

Day 1: Arusha – Rongai Gate – Simba Camp

Drive to Rongai Gate and begin trekking through farmland and forest to Simba Camp.

Overnight: Simba Camp

Day 2: Simba Camp – Second Cave Camp

Ascend gradually across open moorland with beautiful views of Kibo Peak.

Overnight: Second Cave Camp

Day 3: Second Cave Camp – Kikelewa Camp

Continue climbing through alpine vegetation and rocky landscapes.

Overnight: Kikelewa Camp

Day 4: Kikelewa Camp – Mawenzi Tarn Camp

Trek beneath the dramatic spires of Mawenzi Peak and reach Mawenzi Tarn.

Overnight: Mawenzi Tarn Camp

Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn Camp – Kibo Hut

Cross the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks to Kibo Hut.

Overnight: Kibo Hut

Day 6: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut

Begin the summit climb before dawn. Reach Uhuru Peak and descend to Horombo Hut.

Overnight: Horombo Hut

Day 7: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Arusha

Descend through moorland and rainforest before transferring back to Arusha.

End of Trek
