WHY THIS ITINERARY?

Route ascent to the roof of Africa. Starting at Morum Barrier on the north western side of Kilimanjaro this trek cuts out a day at Lemosho and starts right on the Shira Plateau. It joins the Machame Route above Shira 2 Camp on day 3 and circumnavigates Kibo to the south before summiting from Barafu via Stella Point. Descent is via the Mweka route.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Upon your arrival in Arusha, you will be warmly welcomed by our team and transferred to your hotel for rest and preparation. Meet your experienced guide for a briefing on the upcoming trek and ensure you have all the necessary gear for the journey ahead.

Day 2: Arusha to Shira Camp (3,840m)
After a hearty breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to the Londorossi Gate, where your Kilimanjaro adventure officially begins. Trek through lush rainforests and marvel at the diverse flora and fauna before emerging into the moorland zone. Arrive at Shira Camp, your first overnight stop, and acclimatize to the altitude as you soak in the panoramic views of the Shira Plateau.

Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp (3,950m)
Today’s trek takes you through the high alpine desert of the Shira Plateau, offering sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. Traverse rocky terrain and ascend to Lava Tower (4,600m), where you’ll enjoy lunch amidst breathtaking scenery. Descend to Barranco Camp, nestled in the shadow of the imposing Barranco Wall, and rest for the night.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (3,995m)
Challenge yourself with the exhilarating ascent of the Barranco Wall, a highlight of the Shira Route known for its stunning vistas and thrilling scrambling sections. Traverse the rugged landscape of the Karanga Valley, where you’ll spend the night at Karanga Camp, surrounded by towering peaks and sweeping valleys.

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,600m)
As you continue your ascent, the landscape transforms into a barren lunar-like terrain, with sweeping vistas of glaciers and snow-capped peaks. Arrive at Barafu Camp, your final base camp before the summit push, and prepare for the challenging day ahead. Rest, hydrate, and mentally prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Day 6: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) and Mweka Camp (3,100m)
In the darkness of the early morning, embark on the final push to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Trek through the freezing temperatures and rocky terrain, guided by the light of your headlamp and the camaraderie of your fellow climbers. Reach the summit at sunrise and savor the unparalleled sense of achievement and the awe-inspiring views from the Roof of Africa. Descend to Mweka Camp, where you’ll celebrate your accomplishment and rest for the night.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and Departure
Bid farewell to the majestic slopes of Kilimanjaro as you descend through lush rainforests to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificates and celebrate the conclusion of your epic adventure before transferring back to Arusha, where you can reflect on your incredible journey and cherish the memories of conquering Kilimanjaro via the Shira Route.
